MARIJUANA PROHIBITION CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE Drug Policy Alliance: Drugpolicy.org A 20-year-old man was accidentally shot to death by a police officer during a botched marijuana raid in Long Island last Friday. The victim, Jose Colon, was unarmed and did not possess any marijuana. The shooting, described as an accident by Suffolk County police, is reminiscent of the March 2000 death of Anthony Dorismond in neighboring New York city. As in the case of Colon, marijuana was the target, the victim was unarmed, and no drugs were found in Dorismond's possession. During the recent Suffolk County death Jose Colon was gunned down by machine gun fire during a raid intended to enforce the prohibition of a plant that has never been shown to cause an overdose death. |
