BERKELEY POLICE TOLD NOT TO COOPERATE WITH FEDS

Drug Policy Alliance: Drugpolicy.org

In response to federal government raids of California medical marijuana clubs, the Berkeley City Council unanimously passed a resolution affirming the city's support for medical marijuana.  Moreover, the council directed the Berkeley Police Department not to cooperate with the Drug Enforcement Administration in investigations of medical marijuana clubs.  Indicative of the level of support for medical marijuana in California, the resolution was passed without any debate.  David Ritchie, chair of the Police Review Commission, said the DEA should give up its prosecution of medical marijuana, in light of more serious problems facing the federal government.  To date the DEA has never raided a medical marijuana club in Berkeley.  San Francisco passed a similar law late last year.
